Entertainment media news and have the power to influence attitudes and behaviors through their health honest real life representations and social issues .

The Council of Industries Entertainment ( EIC ) is harnessing the power of social media to do so. The idea came from a star-studded selfie at the Oscars that became ever more retweeted the post . The thought was, " What if that tweet was associated with a cause or calling for change? " That cause , for the EIC team , was the 18th Annual PRISM .

Every year since 1996, the Entertainment sectors Council ( EIC ) has produced the PRISM Awards honor accurate depictions of drugs, alcohol, snuff and mental health in film, television, DVDs , music, comics and entertainment multimedia. The objective is to reduce the stigma and discrimination about the disease and substance use and mental recovery with the celebration of what we call " the art of making a difference. " During the past 14 years , the PRISM Awards transmitted at as the only national television special in television history that deals with these issues. FX Networks is the flagship airing partner, joined each year by a number of national cable channels ranging from MTVu for Retirement Living , online outlets and local TV stations .

Although the prizes have been awarded since 1996 , EIC has worked since 1983 with the entertainment industry and the media on health and social issues. Focused on education, resources and recognition, EIC provides training and briefing for journalists, writers , producers, directors , actors, and other people creating content on mental health and substance abuse recovery .

Among the EIC program was created , teamwork and First Draft of Technical Assistance provide expertise to promote greater awareness and more accurate health and social issues in media representations. Our research estimates that 5.882 million households in annual total is reached through stations circulation newspapers , radio and television receiving TEAM Up briefings and resources. The 18th Annual PRISM Awards try to harness the power of the "social sphere " and the influence of the industry to raise awareness, reduce stigma and discrimination on the final mental illness and substance use recovery. The PRISM Awards will use the hashtag # PRISMAwards to track the reach and impressions . In 2012 , there were an estimated 2,570,000 impressions for # PRISMAwards social media conversations on mental health and substance abuse recovery . For this approach, EIC has decided to use social publishing tool , Thunder . On April 29 at 1:00 pm ET, Thunderclap ruin a timed Twitter , Facebook , Tumblr or sent supporters, all at the same time.
