Microsoft Unveils Real Time Universal Translator for Skype in 2014

The inaugural Conference in California , CEO Satya Nadella Microsoft revealed that a good time to address translation technology will eventually make for the depth of the pit of the R & D department and consumer products : Skype . On stage the audience , Nadella demoed a beta version of Skype translation , and the real -time translation in English and German , and vice versa . Skype translation is perfect , but , it is tantalizingly by the creation of a Star trek the universal translator - or Babel fish if you choose - and allow everyone in the communicate with the world , even if they do not share a common language .

 Universal Translator for Skype

We first saw Microsoft word translation with way back in 2012 , when Microsoft Research 's Rick Rashid translated English words into Spanish , Italian , and Mandarin . We saw that with the other in November 2012 - and since then , Microsoft has been quiet . Now , we know why : Microsoft is trying to squeeze the technology of Skype .

In the presentation , Microsoft and Skype and Lync is the next boss Gurdeep Pall a conversation with a German friend . He speaks English , German and Skype translated - and he says that in Germany , and Skype translated it into English . It is not just a good time , and it is pretty good ( and language translation will be real and matter , so to speak , syntax and semantics , and other language caveats ) . Microsoft says , a beta version of Skype for Windows 8 and speaks the translation will be available " by the end of 2014 . "

I was a little disappointed in the display . Let us not forget that it is in favor of the software and the text conversion (a la dragon word recognition software ) - and text to speech (a la Microsoft Sam ) . Machine translation between two languages happened in between , but not very much exciting and ( Google Translate has been free for years ) .

Back when a good time to address translation first demoed in 2012 , the volume actually used in the translations - as , I will convert English into German , and my accent , timbre , and intonation . This is some seriously impressive and so reverse engineered your neck of the system of phonemes ( sounds ) , when used the information to reconstruct your voice in a new language - and by - the real - time ( presentation begins with the six -minute mark in the video above ) . Presumably this process need much processing power, so now , we have a generic , Microsoft Sam to Microsoft Anna computer . ( I think Skype will make for the creation point ... )
